## About the Founder

Mike Thompson, AIA, is the founder and principal. Originally from New Orleans, he grew up surrounded by the French Quarter and Creole architecture — influences that shape his work today. Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, 1993. He served at Allen Hoshall (Memphis) and Michael Barranco (Jackson, MS) before founding Thompson Placemaking in 2015. Collaborated extensively with Duany Plater-Zyberk (DPZ) on New Urbanism charrettes across the U.S. and in Panama.

### Burns Bottom

It's been an honor to work with the Columbus Redevelopment Authority to help revitalize a part of the city that had been forgotten and run down.

The team created a series of courtyards, greenways, walkable streets, and cottage clusters that connect through the site to the adjacent parks and recreation areas the city has. Burns Bottom is located in Columbus, MS. Civil engineers at Neel-Schaffer are currently working to implement the development.

### MSU Satellite Campus & Housing
Meridian, Mississippi · Campus Plan

It's always wonderful to work on a project that involves a town center and has the ability to create a more vibrant life for a city.

The team focused on enclosing a town green to enhance its role in community life. We aimed to integrate new infill buildings seamlessly into the existing street network while providing office and housing for MSU. The buildings were designed to appear as natural extensions of the existing environment while offering needed support facilities for MSU's current Meridian operations.

### Habitat for Humanity
East Helena, Montana · Community Plan

In 2024, I led a charrette team in East Helena, Montana for Habitat for Humanity and their test case for a 250-acre new urban development, blending their typical housing options with market-rate housing and a small town center.

The site had a state highway and a major gas line running through it, but we found that a welcomed challenge to create something unique for the city and development.

The plan accommodates a wide variety of housing, including cottage courts, single-family detached, townhomes, 4-plexes, 6-plexes, multi-family, and mixed-use products. The town center was concentrated around an event lawn space, and we incorporated many large greenways into the plan.

Lost Rabbit continues to be a love of mine, and I continue to design homes there. I'm currently working on developing the future phases of the masterplan which includes most of the western half of Lost Rabbit, and will once again be on the Architectural Review Board.
